Das Bild findet man in der Staatliche Kunsthalle, Karlsruhe. Wolf und Kümpel waren Kollegen und befreundet. Beide gehörten zu den Mitbegründern des Deutschen Athenäums in London (German Athenäum).Sie veranstalteten im Jahre 1870 zugunsten der im Deutsch-Französischen-Krieg gefallenen deutschen Soldaten eine Benefiz-Gemäldeausstellung. Auf dem Portrait von Kümpel dürfte Wolf etwa 50 Jahre alt sein.
The painting can be found in the Staatliche Kunsthalle, Karlsruhe. Wolf and Kümpel were colleagues and friends. Both were among the co-founders of the German Athenaeum in London, and in 1870 they organized a charity painting exhibition for the benefit of German soldiers who died in the Franco-Prussian War. In Kümpel’s portrait, Wolf is probably around 50 years old.

Ursprünglich zeigte das Bild Wolf mit einer Zigarre in der rechten Hand. Wolf war damit nicht glücklich und malte selbst den Hobbyfalken über die Zigarre. Das Bild ist daher ungewöhnlich, da ein Falkner den Vogel nur in der linken Hand halten würde.
Das Bild hängt im Sitzungssaal der Zoologischen Gesellschaft.
Originally, the picture showed Wolf with a cigar in his right hand. Wolf wasn’t happy with this, and himself painted the hobby falcon over the cigar. The picture is therefore unusual as a falconer would only hold the bird in his left hand.
The painting hangs in the Council Room of the Zoological Society.
