Relaxed sailing trips with friendly fellow sailors in a varied sailing area with many picturesque harbors, islands, lakes and canals.
The departure port of Enkhuizen is in the middle of the IJsselmeer, just a day’s sail from the Wadden Sea, the Frisian Lakes or Amsterdam.
The itinerary depends on the wind, the tides and the wishes of the sailors.
Anyone who can walk safely and hold on when the ship rocks can sail.
Sailing experience is not required. Everything is explained and shown on board, but experienced sailors can also enjoy themselves.
We all sail the ship together. There is a suitable task for everyone,
even for children (during the school vacations and from the age of 4) or people with disabilities.
The Windbruid is a traditional “Tjalk” sailing ship, based in Enkhuizen in Holland. Owner/Skipper Sandra Bohnstedt and Mate Paul offer you a relaxing (or strenuous if you prefer!) holiday sailing on the IJsselmeer (formerly Zuider Zee) and in the Wattenmeer, where you can gather mussels in the mud when the tide goes out. You will find the ship in the Buitenhaven of Enkhuizen.
The Windbruid has an authentic appearance, but is equipped with all modern conveniences inside. All cabins on board are equipped with electricity, heating, a window for fresh air and daylight, washbasin with hot and cold water, reading light and cupboard for your personal belongings.
The ship has two double cabins and three four-person cabins. The ship can accommodate 16 guests.
Note: While bookings are possible for any of the available dates, we recommend a group booking for language simplicity. Sandra speaks English as well as German and Dutch!

4Interesting facts about the ship and the voyage
The Tjalk “Windbruid” is a true-to-original Groningen tjalk from 1908, built under the name “Dankbaarheid” at the J. Pattje shipyard in Waterhuizen. The sailing ship has a unique sailing area. She sails across the IJsselmeer, the Wadden Sea, the lakes and canals of Friesland and many other waters that can only be reached with a mast that can be struck. For many decades it sailed as a cargo ship, first under sail, later under motor. In 1978 she was restored and equipped for voyages with guests. The ship with its historic exterior is cozy and comfortable inside. When the skipper, Sandra Bohnstedt, took over the ship in 2014, she named her “Windbruid”.
The deck
The deck of the Windbruid offers plenty of space to enjoy the sun and wind, experience everything up close and do or try out many things yourself. Together with the crew, you set the sails, steer the ship and discuss the itinerary. The sailing days on the Windbruid also offer plenty of time for relaxation, long conversations or a good book. Thanks to electric centerboard winches, the ship can also sail actively with physically weaker guests. You decide for yourself how active you want your sailing vacation to be.
Socializing on the lower deck
You can also follow the progress of the journey below deck. In the large, comfortable seating area in the saloon, you have a view of the water through the portholes and can also see the sails.
Cabins
After a relaxing, sociable day on board, you can retire to your cabin. The cabins are heated, have a window for daylight and fresh air, a washbasin with hot and cold water, a power socket, shelves for personal items and reading lamps above each bed. There is space under the beds for luggage.
