George Robert Gray FRS
George Robert Gray FRS (1808 – 1872) war ein britischer Zoologe und Autor, dessen Schwerpunkt in der Erforschung der Vögel lag. Seine wichtigste Veröffentlichung war die Genera of Birds (1844 – 49), die 46.000 Referenzen enthielt. David William Mitchell illustrierte das Werk, war jedoch überfordert mit seiner Arbeit für die ZSL und engagierte daraufhin den deutschen Illustrator Joseph Wolf als seinen Assistenten für das Projekt. Wolf lieferte 11 der 185 Farbtafeln dieser naturwissenschaftlichen Übersicht, sowie 59 der 148 Detailtafeln.

George Robert Gray FRS (8 July 1808 – 6 May 1872) was an English zoologist and author, and head of the ornithological section of the British Museum, now the Natural History Museum, in London for forty-one years. George Gray’s most important publication was his Genera of Birds (1844–49), which included 46,000 references. David William Mitchell illustrated the work, but was overwhelmed by his work for ZSL and subsequently hired the German illustrator Joseph Wolf as his assistant for the project. Wolf provided 11 of the 185 colour plates of this natural history survey, as well as 59 of the 148 plates of detail.
