James Edward Harting
James Edmund Harting (29. April 1841 – 16. Januar 1928) war ein englischer Ornithologe und Naturforscher, der neben seiner Tätigkeit als Redakteur für mehrere britische naturkundliche Zeitschriften zahlreiche Bücher und Artikel in Fachzeitschriften schrieb. Er wurde an der Downside School (1854-60) und an der University of London ausgebildet und verbrachte einen Großteil seiner Jugend auf Reisen in Europa, wobei er Zeit in den Museen in Paris und Leiden verbrachte. Er bestand alle Prüfungen für einen Anwalt mit Ausnahme des Strafrechts und arbeitete von 1868 bis 1878 in seinem Beruf, bevor er sich der Naturgeschichte und dem Schreiben zuwandte. Harting gab von 1877 bis 1896 die Zeitschrift The Zoologist heraus und galt als Autorität für britische Vögel.
Wolf lieferte Illustrationen für The Birds of Middlesex (1866), British Animals extinct within Historic Times (1880) und Sketches of Bird Life from Twenty Years‘ Observations on their Haunts and Habits (1883).
James Edmund Harting (29.04.1841 – 16.01.1928) was an English ornithologist and naturalist who wrote numerous books and articles in journals apart from serving as an editor for several British natural history periodicals. He was educated at Downside School (1854-60) and the University of London and spent much of his youth traveling on the Continent, spending time at the Museums in Paris and Leiden. Passing all the exams for a solicitor except for criminal law, he worked at his profession from 1868 to 1878, then turning to natural history and writing. Harting edited The Zoologist from 1877 to 1896 and was considered an authority on British birds.
